But for such a treasured appliance, how much do you know about your air conditioner system? Do you know how it works? This fascinating video breaks it down for you.

An air conditioner system is composed of a compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator. The condenser and the evaporator are both responsible for heat exchanges. The condenser sits outside the property while the evaporator sits inside the room that’s being air-conditioned. You’re likely very familiar with these parts but probably never knew their official names!

The compressor works to circulate a refrigerant through the pipework which then cycles between all the components of the air conditioner system. A refrigerant is a special substance that can alternate between a liquid and a gas. Fascinating, huh? The expansion valve then works by regulating the flow of this refrigerant into the evaporator.
